Department 4H – Rabbits & Cavies

  1. General Rules & Regulations

    1. Bred rabbits must be at least 3 months of age.

    2. All rabbits must be tattooed in the left ear for positive identification one week prior to the opening day of the fair (remove excess ink for the show).

    3. Exhibitors are limited to 20 rabbits total in breeding classes

    4. Pen assignments will be based on the total number of entries.

    5. All pens must be utilized by rabbits on entry forms for the show.

      1. Rabbits must stay until the animal release time.

    6. Unused pens by an exhibitor will result in the equal reduction of rabbits allowed to show.

    7. Only exhibitors and show officials will be permitted within the judging area.

    8. Any substitution must be made through the superintendent prior to the show.  Any substitution must be of the same breed, variety and class.

    9. Rabbits/cavies will be judged by ARBA standards.

    10. A mixed breed class will be separate.

    11. Cavies will be a one day show due to housing conditions that may be detrimental to their health.

    12. 4H-5-1 – Meat Pen

      1. Rabbits can be mixed breed as long as they are still uniform in size, shape and color.  If there is a tie between sets, breed standards will be followed.

      2. Age limit not over 80 days, weight limit not over 6 pounds or under 3.5 pounds for the show.

      3. Rabbits not within the weight limits on the show day may show, but not be champion or reserve.

      4. Rabbits will be re-weighed on the sale day to meet minimum weight limit for the opportunity to sell.

      5. All breeds competing together.

      6. One entry per exhibitor

      7. Entry must be purchased or raised and in possession by 8 weeks of age.

      8. Rabbits must be tattooed.

      9. Four may be purchased or raised and show three.

    13. Specials

      1. Best of Show – Trophy Rabbit/Cavy

      2. Best of Breed – Ribbon, Rabbit/Cavy

      3. Best of Opposite – Ribbon, Rabbit/Cavy

      4. Best of Four – Rosette, Rabbit

      5. Best of  Six – Rosette, Rabbit
