Department 4EE – Meat Goats

  1. General Rules & Regulations

    1. Bucks will be brought in on day of show and returned immediately.

    2. All market goats must have horns removed and males castrated and healed prior to the show.

    3. All market goats must be positively identified with a state 4-H ear tag.

    4. All market goats must be less than 1 year of age as of the show date and owned by the exhibitor prior to tag-in.

    5. Each 4-H/FFA member may tag up to 4 goats, show 3 goats, and sell 2 goats in each section 8 and Section 9.

    6. Market goats will be weighed prior to the show and will be divided into weight classes of approximate numbers.

    7. Show officials may disqualify animals from the show that weigh less than 40 pounds or over 115 pounds or appear unhealthy.

    8. Goats entered in section 8 must be 100% dairy breeds or crosses thereof.

    9. Goats entered in section 9 are those with 25% or greater meat breed genetics.

    10. All animals must be shown in uniformity short hair and have no more than 3/4 inch growth.

    11. Meat goat showmanship

      1. All animals must be shown in uniformly short hair and have hair no more than ¾ inch.

      2. Animals must be entered in market classes

      3. Exhibitors may use halters and collars.

      4. Showmanship breakdown as follows:

        1. 20% fitting of animal

        2. 50% performance in show ring

        3. 20% knowledge

        4. 10% personal appearance of show person

    12. Commercial meat goats

      1. 4-H/FFA commercial goats must be tagged at market goat tagging.

      2. Classes open to any non-registered commercial meat goat (any breed or crosses).

      3. Goats with natural horns must be tipped.

      4. Doe kids entered in 4-H/FFA market show may not be shown in commercial classes.

      5. Exhibitor may use halters and collars.

      6. Exhibitors may enter no more than two animals per class.

      7. All animals may have permanent tag or tattoo.

    13. Registered Boer & Kiko

      1. All Boer and Kiko goats must be registered with respective breed associations.

      2. Animals with natural horns must be tipped.

      3. Full blood and pure bred 15/16 or greater will show together.

      4. Percentage class 1/2, 3/4, and 7/8 will show together.
